Food Styling: Culina Creative
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Tapping into latin roots and raw ingredients we helped Diana Jeffra, an independent self made food stylist, evolve into a brand poised to grow in many directions. We ran with it and developed a visual identity (logos, color palette, fonts and graphics) that communicate a natural sophistication while staying approachable. Lastly, Diana tasked us with designing and developing Culina’s website to showcase their work, share their services, sell Diana’s favorite food styling tools and grow a loyal audience through blog content.
Naming
With the goal of identifying a name that would be unique and ‘ownable’ while at the same time recognizable we explored a many word associations and options. ‘Culina’, latin for kitchen, cooking stove, food and close relative to culinary became the perfect foundational word for where Diana wanted to take her brand. The addition of ‘creative’ points to her as an artist and not just a culinary expert.
Etymology
Culinary: 1630s, "of the kitchen;" 1650s, "pertaining to the art of cookery," from Latin culinarius "pertaining to the kitchen," from culina "kitchen, cooking stove, food," an unexplained variant from coquere "to cook" (from PIE root *pekw- "to cook, ripen").

Logo Suite
A custom logotype with a little ‘wrinkle’ in the middle sets the table for delicious content. While the secondary marks provide a stamp of authenticity and artistic flare.
Color Palette & Patterns
The palette is comprised of a mix of neutrals & accent colors that can be found naturally in food products. The accent colors are applied to bold background patterns derived from raw food ingredients. These patterns are utilized in recipe cards for her recipe development work
Web Design
Front end web design & development built on a custom theme through Squarespace to showcase Culina’s beautiful portfolio, highlight their services and integrate an affiliate linked shop. Visit the site!
